Rob Reiner was a genius. A creative genius. And he was so relentlessly kind to me and to Writers Bloc.
Rob was endlessly gracious and generous to Writers Bloc. He participated in many Writers Bloc events as both a moderator and as a featured author. He was sought after as a moderator because he was brilliant, knew his way around the issues at hand, and knew how to ask just the right questions. And he knew how to listen. That’s a true gift. Some of the Writers Bloc events he moderated include Al Franken for Franken’s book, Lies and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them; journalist Michael Isikoff on Trump and Putin’s collaboration over the years; former MSNBC anchor Joy Reid; Arianna Huffington; and former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Rob’s knowledge of the authors’ material was not only impressive, it was positively masterly. This past September, we finally had the opportunity to host Rob for his own utterly hilarious book, A Fine Line Between Stupid and Clever: The Story of Spinal Tap. Please take a moment to watch this wonderful program here.
There’s so much to say and to admire about Rob: his movies, his activism, his willingness to stand for meaningful and just causes both social and political. His impact on our cultural and political landscape was profound. We are stricken, shell-shocked, and heartsick by the murders of Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner. Our hearts are with their loved ones during this devastating time. We will miss Rob’s art and his voice. And we thank him for his kindness and graciousness to Writers Bloc.
