Who in President Biden’s administration knew about his decline in health and mental acuity? It’s well known and documented that his family and senior staff encouraged him to run for a second term, notwithstanding his 2020 promise to serve one term. Biden’s shocking debate performance on June 27, 2024 made it painfully clear to the nation that Biden was unbearably off. But this performance was just another painful episode in the President’s long decline, according to Jake Tapper and Alex Thompson. In their new book, Original Sin, Jake Tapper, Chief Washington Correspondent for CNN and CNN’s DC anchor, and journalist Alex Thompson, show through dozens of interviews that Biden staffers at all levels, from the highest to the lowest, knew of his diminishment throughout his presidency. Tapper and Thompson offer evidence that family and staff covered for the President’s disabilities, even as he opted to run for a second term. Tapper and Thompson ask, who else knew about this willful deception to conceal the president’s waning health?
Jon Lovett and Jon Favreau, both co-hosts of Pod Save America and co-founders of Crooked Media, know their way around the White House. They both worked in the Obama White House as speech writers, and therefore have had experience with Joe Biden from their years serving in the administration, and have gained more insight from their many interviews with Biden personnel both pre and post Biden’s campaign suspension announcement.
