Katy Tur was a journalist long before she jumped into our daily lives as she reported for MSNBC and NBC News from the Trump campaign rallies before the 2016 presidential election. Singled out by Trump at her rallies, where he famously called her “Little Katy,” she withstood menace, taunts, and threats at those rallies all over the country.
In her new book, Rough Draft, Katy gives us a fuller picture of her relationship with journalism, from her exposure to the field as a child riding with her famous parents in their news helicopter (Madonna’s wedding to Sean Penn! The O.J. Bronco chase!), she lived and breathed the news while still a toddler, and embraced it as an award-winning reporter as an adult.
In this funny and very dramatic memoir of life on the front lines while juggling babies and family, Katy Tur reveals a fraught relationship with her unconventional parents, her bouts of traumatic self-doubt, and career evolution into a highly respected journalist. She questions the news business as a whole, and her place in it, with such great depth and humor.
In conversation with Jacob Soboroff. Jacob is an award-winning correspondent for MSNBC, NBC News, and the author of the acclaimed book, Separated. He is an expert on issues around the U.S./Mexico border.
