If you were to get all of your news from Andy Borowitz dispatches, you’d be a happier, and possibly wiser, person. If you don’t read The Borowitz Report in the New Yorker newsletters, then it’s no wonder you’re cranky and depressed about what’s going on in the world. Both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal, along with anyone who reads his dispatches, calls Andy Borowitz among the best American satirists. Writers Bloc would have to expand on that, and add “ever.”

In his new book, Profiles in Ignorance: How America’s Politicians Got Dumb and Dumber, Borowitz cites a brain drain throughout Washington and state capitals, with some notable exceptions to be sure. Between social media, the 24-hour news cycle, and our insatiable appetite for entertainment, Borowitz argues that knowledge and intellect have taken a back seat to performance. His exposure of pure idiocy and commentary on such personalities as Dan Quayle, Sarah Palin, Ted Cruz, and legions of others, can sound like Borowitz Report satire– but it’s not. Corruption, crime, greed, and sheer stupidity: the toll on American leadership over the past 50 years has been profound. But consider that the author is Andy Borowitz: this is serious stuff, but only he can deliver it in such a wonderful way.

In conversation with Congressman Adam Schiff. Adam Schiff is a Member of Congress who represents great swaths of Los Angeles County. Former President Trump doesn’t like him. We suspect that the feeling is mutual. He chairs the U.S. House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees Departments such as Homeland Security; Justice; State; Defense, and many others. He served as Impeachment Manager for the 2019 Impeachment Inquiry, and sits on the January 6 Committee. He is a best-selling and award-winning author (Midnight in Washington) who has been known to dabble in standup.

If Borowitz and Schiff weren’t enough, Sandra Tsing Loh will read a brief sample of  real quotes by Dan Quayle, who was, as the saying goes, just  “a heartbeat away” from the Presidency.  Notwithstanding his great talent, Andy could never have come up with these lines on his own.

There is plenty of street parking available by the performing arts center. As always, we urge you to carpool. Please read the street signs for restrictions.
