Yes, we in California and some other states are okay, for now. Consider what women and anyone who can get pregnant are now facing in states that have banned abortion access and what they will face in the very near future. It’s daunting and frightening. According to the New York Times, about half of states will allow abortion bans or hard-hitting restrictions to take effect. Restrictive abortion laws are already in effect in some states; others are awaiting states laws to take effect; and there are legal fights underway.
Robin Marty, an abortion advocate and expert on reproductive rights, has updated her recent book, The Handbook for a Post-Roe America. The new, updated handbook offers not only information on health care access around the country, but it offers practical tips in our new reality. Marty shows how to navigate the legal system; how to avoid digital surveillance to avoid criminal penalty; what to know about abortion pills; what to know about risks involved with self management without proper clinical care, and so much more. Jessica Pieklo is an expert in reproductive rights, and the Executive Editor of Rewire, a national publication dedicated to reproductive justice, and reproductive health. She is the host of Rewire’s podcast, Boom! Lawyered. and is an award -winning journalist. She’s the co-author, along with Robin Marty, of The End of Roe V. Wade: Inside the Right’s Plan to Destroy Legal Abortion.
