Taffy Brodesser -Akner’s debut novel, Fleishman Is in Trouble, made every “ten best”list there is. And her Hulu series which she adapted from her novel, did too. It was so hilarious and so painful. She writes about marriage and Jewish American family life like no else.

For those of you who haven’t read Taffy’s profiles in The New York Times Magazine, this piece is a perfect place to start. It’s about the trauma-filled kidnapping of a family friend, the story which inspired her new novel, which the Los Angeles Times review says it joins the pantheon of Great American Novels. But it’s also about Taffy.

Long Island Compromise is a generations-spanning family saga with Brodesser-Akner’s signature wit and critical eye as she exposes the American dream in Jewish-American terms: the definitions of achievement and success, class and social mobility, inheritance in all of its forms– historical, financial, emotional–and family bonds that rip and unite all at the same time.

Taffy Brodesser-Akner is one of the great Jewish-American novelists of our era.

In conversation with Adam Brody, who was brilliant as Seth Morris in Taffy’s own adaptation of Fleishman Is in Trouble. Brody has appeared in countless film and television roles, including the critically acclaimed films, American Fiction; Promising Young Woman; and so many others.  And of course there’s The O.C., which launched his career. Brody has proved to be a most versatile actor, who imbues his roles with intelligence and wit.
