A Letter from Andrea Grossman, Founder of Writers Bloc Presents

Dear Friends:

Writers Bloc is in the middle of its 17th season, and what a season it’s been. As curator of Writers Bloc Presents, I am so proud to bring you great novelists, journalists, and comedians—some of the best artists and thinkers in the world, without question. Whether you’re a longtime audience member or new to our programs, by participating in Writers Bloc, you have helped to make Los Angeles an important literary destination. We thank you for your support.

But now we ask for your help as you consider your end-of-year contributions. Writers Bloc Presents is a tax exempt organization under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3). We keep our ticket prices low, and haven’t raised them since 2004, despite escalating costs.

Due to these challenges, we are asking you to participate in our second annual end-of-year fundraising appeal.

Why should you donate?

Writers Bloc’s featured guests are legends in their field. In the past year alone, we’ve presented events with iconic novelists, journalists, and comedians such as:

Rachel Maddow with Bill Maher
Andy Borowitz with Patton Oswalt
Elmore Leonard with Timothy Olyphant and Graham Yost from Justified
Lawrence O’Donnell and Kevin Breyer on The Constitution
Chris Hayes with Harry Shearer
Martin Amis with Matthew Weiner
Dan Rather with Marty Kaplan
Erik Larson with David Kipen
Jonathan Safran Foer with David Ulin
Calvin Trillin with Paula Poundstone
Nick Hornby with Tom Bissell
and so many more.

Whether you love fine fiction, or are more inclined to nonfiction and events of the moment, we are asking for your help.

We welcome personal, as well as foundation and corporate contributions of any amount to allow us to continue to present to you these wonderful programs.

What do you get in return?

Your gift is tax deductible to the extent permitted by law, excluding the fair market value of any benefits received.

Thank you for supporting thoughtful, entertaining and provocative events. The cost of bringing these programs to you is high, and it takes a great deal of organization, time and money to make them happen.

Please put us on your list as you make your end-of-year charitable contributions. Let’s keep the conversation going. We can’t do it without your help. For your convenience, you can donate online via Paypal or you can mail your tax-deductible contributions to:
